Michael Genovese, M.D., J.D., chief medical officer for Acadia Healthcare, published a guest column in The Tennessean highlighting the crucial work of the Crisis Support Team (CST). This powerful partnership between Acadia Healthcare and The Jason Foundation offers schools across the country expert guidance, usually within 24 hours of contacting the CST, on how to support their school community should one of their students die by suicide. These timely resources help educators respond in the most clinically effective manner so that their students and school communities receive effective support in the aftermath of suicide. In his column, Dr. Genovese also discusses the devastating youth suicide statistics, including the ripple effect on families, friends, schools, and communities of losing a child to suicide. Initiatives like the Crisis Support Team help bridge the gap in resources so that communities across the country receive much-needed behavioral health support.
